How to Break Into Healthcare Informatics

Have I piqued an interest in healthcare informatics? I will use the terminology of healthcare informatics and nursing informatics interchangeably. After hearing a talk from the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at the Cleveland Clinic this year, my sister is attending the University of Illinois with the intention of graduating with a healthcare informatics certificate. My sister and her husband were captivated by the CNO’s speech that she quickly enrolled in the University of Illinois in less than a month and got accepted. My cousin called me two weeks ago asking about information on how to break into the healthcare informatics career. 2. Ask yourself why you want to break into this field. Sometimes money isn’t enough. Is it wanting to make a difference in someone’s life? Do you have a passion for technology? Is it job security? For those individuals in the field of healthcare informatics already, that is job security.
  3. Do you know someone in the field of healthcare informatics? Can you do a share day with the person and observe their job viagra for a few hours? Sometimes, job descriptions can be vague. Ask questions if you don’t understand.
  4. Enroll in a healthcare informatics program – either online or in person.
  5. Get a job in healthcare informatics to see if you really like it. I know it is easier said than done. My cousin asked me how she would get a job in a career she doesn’t even know about. Well, since I am in the field, I am coaching her on where to apply and cheap cialis what position to apply for. I gave her information on what the job is really about and what to expect.
  6. Join a professional organization like Health Information Management (HIMSS) or American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA).
  7. Subscribe to professional journals like Healthcare Informatics.
  8. Join LinkedIn and join online professional groups like Healthcare Informatics groups, Epic groups, Allscripts groups.
  9. Attend conferences. Most conferences are available to individuals who join a professional organization but sometimes there are conferences that are open to the public.
  10. Attend webinars. levitra and cialis Sometimes these webinars are free if you subscribe to their newsletters. An example is Fierce Markets. I’ve attended some complimentary webinars from Fierce Healthcare if I am available. Most of their webinars are during the weekdays and I can only attend if it is during my lunch hour.
