Hello, my name is Anna Fernando and I am the blogger for Master in Health Informatics.com. I am a former ICU nurse turned Nurse Informaticist. The intensive care unit is full of the latest technological advances and I decided to turn my love of technology into my next career. Here is my advice for nurses wanting to go into informatics:
1.) Take on the role of a super user for any implementation
2.) Get on any committee that involves nursing and technology or EMR’s’
3.) Find out who is the liaison for nursing and informatics and talk to that person. Ask what you can do to help. Get involved with your local or national organizations that are working through Meaningful Use,and education of new nurses in information technology.
